birth is sacred.

“Sarah is the very best at what she does- she’s incredibly knowledgeable, personable, and experienced. Having her as our doula and hypnobirthing instructor was the best thing I did leading up to birth. She not only has a wealth of knowledge, but a large referral network if you need any recommendations post birth. She gave me the knowledge I needed to go into my first birth feeling prepared and confident. 1000% recommend!” -Sarah S., Annapolis

Ten Years of Experience

I’ve been a doula for a decade now and loved every minute of it. I started Safe and Sound Births in 2024 so I could focus on quality, not quantity. Working at an agency was just not for me.

I have served hundreds of families, but only take 3 birth clients a month currently. I am committed to the clients who hire me and I honor that sacred birth space, no matter how you plan to give birth.

Watching women become mothers will always leave me in awe of this miracle we call life.

Over the years, I’ve supported dozens of families across Anne Arundel County — from Glen Burnie, to Shady Side — using HypnoBirthing tools that help them feel grounded and calm through labor.

I love teaching HypnoBirthing because the entire philosophy is that birth doesn’t have to feel scary and out of control. The classes show you birth videos that inspire you and show you what birth can look like. I’ve had two successful HypnoBirths—one with an epidural, one in the car—and I still use techniques from HypnoBirthing to this day.

Birth education should always show, not just tell. There is hands-on practice each class so that partners are left feeling prepared long before labor begins. Even if you don’t take a class or practice HypnoBirthing, I bring that calm energy to every birth I get to attend.

Birth can be so intense. You don’t have to do it alone. I recently was hired by an OB to be their doula. Even the experts need guidance through this experience.

A good doula will help make your partner even more supportive. I always aim to include the partners in this experience as much as they want and arm them with information & techniques prenatally to do just that.

Getting invited into this intimate, vulnerable time in your life means so much to me. Thank you to every woman who has let me hold her hand, slow dance, or just hold space in the room with them through this process.

Birth truly is a labyrinth in and back out again. Get yourself a guide who knows the way.

It’s your birth.

Who Needs a doula?

Anyone. everyone.

Birth is a unique experience to each birthing person, each time they birth. Whether you’re a first time mom feeling a little lost, a partner who wants more support, or third time parent looking for a different experience, a doula will work with you to find out your wants and needs, and help to make that happen throughout the birthing process.

Doulas have been shown to reduce length of labor, reduce the need for interventions, reduce the rate of c-section, and birthing people have reported overall better, more enjoyable birthing experiences. Who doesn’t want that?
